USMOD Series Getting Ready for 2009 Debut

The action and excitement of the northeast DIRT-style modifieds is coming to the southeast in 2009. The United Southeast Modifieds on Dirt Series (USMOD) will be introducing this historic division to tracks in Maryland , Virginia , West Virginia , and North Carolina in 2009. The USMOD series was developed by a group of former late model owners, drivers, and a few die-hard race fans who wanted to bring a new excitement to their local speedways.

Together, they decided that the area needed a shot in the arm from a historic, exciting, developed division. The excitement, speed, history, and unique look of the northeast modifieds were a perfect fit. With names of current late model stars Tim McCreadie, Ricky Elliott, Vic Coffey, and Tim Fuller all running modifieds part-time, we expect a high amount of interest as some fans see these impressive race cars for the first time, while others get to see local drivers partake in a division they’ve only seen a handful of times. After hearing the positive feedback from local fans at southeastern tracks such as Hagerstown Speedway, Virginia Motor Speedway, Tyler County Speedway, and the Dirt Tack at Lowe’s, we’re extremely confident that our experiment will be an impressive success, that will be around and have an extraordinary growth rate for years to come. It's going to be a long process, but we can assure you that this is going to happen in 2009.

A current basis purse structure has been announced. However, that can and will increase when the USMOD Series receive sponsorship. No point fund has been announced yet, however, again, that can instantly change with sponsorship commitments. A schedule of about 10-12 regional races and a "Big Purse" 6 race North-South Shootout series is the ultimate goal, and the series is already in negotiations with several speedways.

Currently, the USMOD Series is looking at running a rules package very similar to the RoC Dirt Tour’s set of rules, due to the wide variety of options it gives the drivers to be competitive. The original plan was to only run small block modifieds, however, with Delaware International Speedway, Lernerville Speedway, Sharon Speedway, and Tri-City Speedway all running big blocks weekly, and being closest in location to the target area of USMODS, big blocks will be included in the rule package. Big blocks and small blocks will run together in the same division, with obvious weight breaks for the small blocks. A crate class could possibly be added to the USMOD Series as well if we receive enough positive feedback.
