McLean County adds Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods this season
UNDERWOOD, N.D. (Jan. 8) – Big things are expected this season at McLean County Speedway for the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod division.
Northern SportMods join IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars running on Saturday programs starting May 5 at Underwood. Points will also be awarded for May 19, June 9 and 30, and July 7 and 14 shows.
“The Northern SportMods are an up-and-coming class. We’ve seen them at Super Nationals the last couple years,” said promoter Robert Rosselli. “I already know of four cars being built that will run here. Scuttlebutt is that we should have around 20 of them.”
The quarter-mile track will have more of a ‘D’ shape in 2012. Turn two will be pushed out, the backstretch straightened and some 40,000 yards of dirt added.
If there’s enough time before opening night, Rosselli also wants to move the grandstand from the south side of the track to the north.
Points earned in both the Stock Car and Northern SportMod divisions at McLean County figure toward IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing championships. Stock Car points also count in Probe Industries Northern Region standings.
Sanctioned Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks ran at Underwood last season.
