Older Rocket ???
I bought a Rocket, learned it was an older chassis. I know it is a 2" black front. Been told it was a "wide rear". Ran it part of a few seasons (tight, tight, tight - for me anyway). Sat all of last year and 1/2 the year before after granading a few motors... LOL (it's fixable was the thought).
Wanted to poll the members (hell, visitors for that matter) here to see if anyone would have a book on like a '97/98 (guessing and from what has been said). Something someone would be willing to sell, lend, copy* (for preservation purposes of course), even electronic would work for me cause I have a printer with paper. I need bar lengths, location of rear, j-bar length, spacing...front end lengths/locations-uppers/lowers lengths and such. I have nothing other than what I've stolen off here adding to my notebook. I really want to give racing a go this year.
I see most everyone refers to "the book" or "what the book calls for" or "what it says".... I don't have anything to go off of. I have called Rocket with the chassis # (7424) but they can't (won't) help - "if you want help, you need to buy a newer chassis" - "we don't have anything that goes back that far, we don't keep stuff like that!".
I do have a few pics if anyone would like to try and pinpoint a year. (if I can figure out how to do it). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Alright - how about - Would anyone offer the j-bar length for around this year?

Sorry, but I'm not going to be much help as I never owned a rocket so I really don't remember a lot of the older stuff for dimensions. I used to have an older rocket set-up book but I'm not sure where it is, I'll look and see if I can find it.
I would think someone would have a side to side measurement on the rear end, you'll probably have to be patient as all the boards are really slow this time of year.

I found a 99 thur 2001 set-up book, not sure if that works for the year you have.
If you post an email address I can scan it and sent it.
I'll be out for a while so it might be late tonight before I can send it.

Thanks Billet - that may be of great help. Email is hotrod_220@hotmail.com.
A ways back in threads... about pg 41 under Thread "Pinion and Chassis Setup, I had found a measurement of 15 1/2" for older Rockets and later was changed to *16 1/4 (or 3/4)" from *bell to frame rail? Don't know if that measurement goes back to my model. Figure if I could get an adjustable bar, I can find what I or the car likes... (depends on which one of use us more stubborn - and so far in each instance {or incident}, it has shown more than me) LOL
*I'll have to go back and check the post
Ok, I stand corrected... it's on pg 42 (new threads push 'em back) and my memory was off anyway...
copied from pg 42
Also, check your rear end side-to-side measurement. According to my rocket manuals, Somewhere between '00 & '04 they changed the manual and called for the measurement to be 16 1/4" rather than the old 15 3/4". I've tried both (on a '00 rocket with '04 4-bar brackets) and prefer the 15 3/4" measurement which has the rear end moved to the right a little. I'm not sure if the cars changed or not?
If its a pre-'04 car, I think you will prefer the short left rear upper bar (at least I do).
Although I have to give BigBird alot of credit for straighting some of my sh!t out, it has been proven, that bonehead can cure most rocket problems from another corner of the globe.

I will try to send this sometime shortly, but you might check your spam box as I have an unusual email addy and with it having an attachment added most filters will mark it as spam. It will come with ROCKET manual in the subject matter so be on the lookout.
I'm not going to be any help on whether it's the same for that much older of a car but at least you will have it.

Not a problem - I'm in debt to ya. Thanks....
Ya know, I was kinda looking to hear from Krom... think the chassis he started with was a 97 that he updated and made changes to.

I just sent it, had to break it up into 6 emails as my scanner is really good and makes large file size copies.
The first couple may or may not have went thru, the ones you want are titled "Rocket manual 2nd try part 1-6. There is 15 pages.
It does list the side to side measurement being 17.75" for cars before 11/99 so I'd start there.
If you don't get them post tomorrow and I'll try sending them again.

Yes Sir, I got 'em! 1 and 2 and 2nd trys 1->6.
That's somewhat odd - measuring 17.75" - wow, that would make a big difference.
I'll check 'em tomorrow and post yes or no... as I need to get to bed - back up in about 3.5 hrs
Thanks again
