2006 Schedule Unveiled During Annual Awards
Celebration at Lowes Motor Speedway

(Fayetteville, NC – January 18, 2006) The CAROLINA
CLASH Super Late Model Series (SLMS) celebrated their
2005 season and award winners on Saturday night in
style at Lowes Motor Speedway. The annual function
which takes place at The Speedway Club saw
Rutherfordton, North Carolina short track veteran
Ricky Weeks presented with the championship trophy and
award winnings for his successful title run on the
dirt late model touring series in 2005. The
championship was the second consecutive series title
for Weeks on the CAROLINA CLASH SLMS as the traveling
circuit completed its sixth and most successful
season. Weeks reeled off seven series wins during the
2005 campaign to capture the prestigious championship.

“This is a special night for me and all of my team
members and family,” Weeks proclaimed from the podium
in front of the large crowd gathered for the awards
banquet. “We have enjoyed the series, especially
winning these back to back championships and we are
looking forward to trying to make it three in a row in
2006.”

The top-ten championship points drivers of the
CAROLINA CLASH SLMS were recognized as each received
their series earnings for last season, as well as
trophies and other honors. David Smith of Inman,
South Carolina came home in second place of the title
chase, followed in third by Danbury, North Carolina’s
Gary Mabe. Finishing fourth and fifth in the final
CAROLINA CLASH SLMS standings were Jeff Smith of Kings
Mountain, North Carolina and Dan Breuer of
Mooresville, North Carolina.

Clint Elkins made two trips to the stage on Saturday
evening to receive awards during the special
celebration. Elkins picked up his winnings and trophy
for a solid sixth place finish in the championship
standings, and then the Lincolnton, North Carolina
young gun was honored as the series’ Rookie of the
Year on the CAROLINA CLASH SLMS. The talented young
driver entered the final series event of 2005 trailing
fellow rookie contender David Dick by thirty-six
points in the Rookie of the Year standings, but
rallied to capture the award in a thrilling season
finale. Dick, an equally talented young late model
racer from Summerfield, North Carolina, finished in
second place for the freshman of the year award while
also notching a seventh-place award in the series
final championship points standings.

Drivers finishing eighth through tenth in the 2005
CAROLINA CLASH SLMS championship chase were Noel
Tucker (Mount Airy, North Carolina), Deano Long
(Saluda, South Carolina) and Bob Robertson (Evans,
Georgia), respectively. Each of the drivers were
recognized for their commitment to the title race and
awarded with trophies and prize winnings.

A new tradition began on Saturday evening when the
CAROLINA CLASH SLMS inducted its first member into the
newly formed Hall of Fame for the traveling circuit.
Augusta, Georgia businessman and long-time racing
sponsor and advocate Jack Starrette was presented with
the prestigious award and recognized for his lifetime
achievements as the inaugural inductee into the
CAROLINA CLASH SLMS Hall of Fame.

CAROLINA CLASH SLMS President Larry Lee opened the
special night of celebration at Lowes Motor Speedway
by thanking all of the race teams, drivers, team
owners, event promoters, series officials and key
personnel who have helped the tour grow into one of
the strongest and most exciting regional late model
tours in the nation during the past six years. Lee
noted that the seventh season on the tour would bring
new challenges and more races for the teams, while
pointing out that event purses and season-long
championship awards have been boosted for the coming
year. The 2006 CAROLINA CLASH SLMS Champion will
receive a posted $10,000 award for winning the title,
while the year end points awards will be increased
throughout the top-ten finishing positions and also
extended to include the top-fifteen finishers in the
new season.

Other awards given out during the awards dinner and
ceremony included the CAROLINA CLASH SLMS Sportsman of
the Year honor which was presented to Newby Racing.
Recognition and plaques were also presented to Event
Promoters, Series Sponsors and Series Employees by Lee
as part of the celebration of the 2005 season.
Drivers finishing in the top-five of the points also
received special jackets from American Race Tires,
while competitors who finished sixth through tenth
were presented with coats from VP Racing Fuels. Ricky
Weeks, as the series champion, and Clint Elkins, as
the top rookie, were also presented with CAROLINA
CLASH SLMS leather jackets emblazoned with their
accomplishments for the season.

The new event schedule for the 2006 season was
announced as well as other exciting news concerning
the series and its sanctioning organization. The
CAROLINA CLASH will open its 2006 season at Carolina
Speedway in Gastonia, North Carolina on March 10-11.
The thirty plus event schedule for the tour is posted
on the series official web site, found at

including 2006 rules and other pertinent information
will be posted on the site during the coming days.

contend for the series title and drivers submitting
their requests to contend for the 2006 Rookie of the

Prior to the banquet and awards celebration on
Saturday evening, more than a dozen drivers and teams
participated in a special planning and rules meeting
for the CAROLINA CLASH SLMS which was held in the
conference room of Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World at the
Concord Mills Mall. Drivers on hand announced their
commitment to compete for the series championship in
the upcoming season with several key rule changes put
into place. In 2006 teams will be required to run
RaceCeiver communication devices in order to remain in
constant contact with series officials.
