View Full Version : 84 Drivers Invited To StormPay.com WRS National Championship Race

CLARKSVILLE, TN – StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series officials have announced the names of the 84 invitees to the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series National Championship Race at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL on December 14. The invitees include the top six point drivers from both Weekly Racing Series Regions, and the top six point drivers from each track.

“This race will be the ‘Super Bowl’ for these 84 drivers, as they are the ‘grass roots’ of American Short Track racing,” StormPay.com President of Operations and Communications Roby Helm said. “These drivers may not be nationally known because they work jobs during the week and race on weekends, but they are very talented race car drivers. They don’t travel to bigger races much, but most of them are planning vacations to Tampa, FL to compete in this All-Star race.”

The 40-lap $3,000-to-win StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series National Championship Race will be held in conjunction with the StormPay.com Annual Awards Banquet on December 13 at the Weston Hotel in Tampa, FL, and the 100-lap $10,000-to-win 2nd Annual StormPay.com Crate Racin’ USA World Championship Race at East Bay Raceway Park on December 15-16.

The invitees are led by StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Lucky Keeton of Toomsuba, MS and East Region Champion Jason Wilson of Margaret, AL. Both drivers will be eligible for a $1,000 bonus if they win the 40-lap $3,000-to-win StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series National Championship Race.

Keeton was also the Track Champion at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS. Keeton posted 12 wins during the 27-week StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series season with 11 at Whynot, and one at Southern Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS. In 19 races, Keeton also had 17 top five finishes, and finished in the top ten in every race.

Wilson took the Track Championship at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL. He had nine wins in 28 starts with five wins at Talladega Short Track, and four wins at Childersburg Speedway in Childersburg, AL. Wilson posted 23 top five finishes, and 27 top ten finishes.

Joining Keeton from the West Region will be Terry Mosley of Gilbertown, AL, Talbert Goldman of Meridian, MS, Herman Reynolds of Laurel, MS, Tony Albright of Clarksville, TN, and Steven Ashby of Cunningham, TN. Reynolds topped the StormPay.com WRS win list with 14 wins in 38 races, and is also the Southern Speedway Track Champion. Ashby took the StormPay.com Speedway Track Championship.

Behind Wilson in the East Region are Carlton Freeman of Eastaboga, AL, Adam Martin of Talladega, AL, Logan Yates of Delta, AL, John Pierce of Billingsley, AL, and Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL. Freeman is the Childersburg Speedway Track Champion.

Also being invited to the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series National Championship Race will be the to six drivers from the nine West Region tracks, and the three East Region Tracks, excluding the top six Regional point drivers. To total of 310 different drivers competed in the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series in 2006.

Scott Tracer of Rector, AR is the Track Champion at Malden Speedway in Malden, MO. Joining Tracer from Malden Speedway will be Scott Gibbs of Bloomfield, MO, Steve Karns of Marion, IL, Billy Hopkins of Caruthersville, MO, Jeff Moss of Harrisburg, MO, and Joey Mack of Malden, MO.

The six invitees from Southern Speedway will be Mike Farmer of Wiggins, MS, Scott Graham of Petal, MS, Bubba Jones of Ellisville, MS, Bryan Warner of Angie, LA, Richard Freeman of Franklinton, LA, and James Young of Richland, MS.

Mike Shirley of Meridian, MS is the Track Champion at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS. He will be invited to the National Championship Race along with Jamie Pickard of Columbus, MS, Thomas McReynolds of Milport, MS (who is also the track champion at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS), Darrell Guess of Columbus, MS, Chase Washington of Columbus, MS, and Terry King of Columbus, MS.

Thunderhill Raceway in Lawrenceburg, TN will send Track Champion Roger Brewer of Tuscumbia, AL, Todd Minner of Murfreesboro, TN, Jerry Owens of Florence, AL, William Burns of Tuscumbia, AL, Jason Markewitz of Tuscumbia, AL, and Donald Johns of Summertown, TN.

The invitees from Whynot Motorsports Park are Larry Murphy of Meridian, MS, Wiley Williams of Stonewall, MS, Roger Rollison of Meridian, MS, David James of Meridian, MS, James Canterbury III of Meridian, MS, and Owen Stockstill of Columbia, MS.

Landon Frith of Terry, MS is the Track Champion at Swinging Bridge Raceway in Jackson, MS, and he will be invited to the National Championship Race along with Doug Todd of Brandon, MS, Jarrette Gunn of Brandon, MS, Les Lazarus of Hazelhurst, MS, Neil Lee of Flowood, MS, and Lance Carroll of Bastrop, LA.

The six drivers being invited from Columbus Speedway are Tony Shelton of Steens, MS, Caleb Myers of Columbus, MS, Roman Ponds of Columbus, MS, Reed Long of Columbus, MS, Cody Swink of Columbus, MS, and John Maxey of Smithville, MS.

Pike County Speedway in McComb, MS will be represented by Track Champion Davin Bates of Independence, LA, Kevin Watts of Denham Springs, LA, Jeff Danos of Mandeville, LA, Nick Curole of Metairie, LA, Tyler Pitts of Sun, LA, and Michael Rodrigue of Norco, LA.

StormPay.com Speedway will be represented by Gil Smith of Nashville, TN, Don Young of Hopkinsville, KY, Jason Davis of Clarksville, TN, Eddie Pace of Clarksville, TN, Don Everett of Clarksville, TN, and Brian Caudle of Clarksville, TN.

In the East Region, Talladega Short Track will be represented by Steve Kirk of Munford, AL, Cameron Heath of Weaver, Al, Buddy George of Ragland, AL, Dee Hindman of Talladega, AL, Lee Burdett of Hueytown, AL, and Brentt Roberts of Anniston, AL.

Drivers representing Childersburg Speedway at the National Championship Race will be Craig Giattina of Trussville, AL, Steve Brasher of Calera, AL, Tony Kemp of Carrollton, GA, R.D. Smith of Pell City, AL, Anthony Hill of Carrollton, GA, and Rod Carroll of Anniston, AL.

Samuel Brown of Fyffe, AL is the Track Champion at Thunder Mountain Speedway in Fyffe, AL. He will be invited to the National Championship Race along with Jeremy Pruitt of Chattanooga, TN, Kasey Hall of Geraldine, AL, Zach Nichols of Cedartown, GA, Gathan Burns of Piedmont, AL, and Mitchell Browning of Buchanan, GA.
