(Savannah, GA) The entry list for the 2nd Annual Coca-Cola Young Guns Shoot-Out presented by Stock Car Racing and Circle Track Magazines along with Sport Clips at the Oglethorpe Speedway Park continues to grow larger. The entries received over the weekend have pushed the number to eighty-four with an even number of young talented competitors in each of the late model and open wheel modifieds. All the drivers are aged 23 or younger and are looking to showcase their talents in what has become a ‘motorsports combine’ for professional race team scouts and development coordinators.
The eighty-four drivers represent twenty-two states and one Canadian province along with dozens of sanctions, series, tours and local tracks. Competitors will have the opportunity to showcase their talents in events for the crate late models, IMCA Modifieds and Championship Modified Tour events on Friday, February 3 before taking to track against one another on Saturday, February 4.
“The talent pool is far better than I had ever anticipated for a second year event,” stated event promoter Ted Austad. “This is what we envisioned when planning for the scouts to come to one location and be able to meet, watch and evaluate new talent coming into the sport.”
The event is part of the historic half mile speedway’s 5th Annual Winternationals of Georgia weekend. Racing is planned for Friday, February 3 in the crate late model, IMCA Modified, Championship Tour Modified, Mini Stock and 440 divisions along with a special hot laps session for the Young Guns. Saturday night all the Friday divisions will see action along with qualifying time trials, semi-features and main events for the eighty plus Young Guns competitors. There will be a main event for both the Young Guns Late Models and the Young Guns Modifieds.
“It will be a full weekend of racing,” added Austad. “And who knows, race fans may get to see the next Carl Edwards in the making. It’s not that long ago that he was competing behind the wheel of a dirt modified.”
General admission tickets for OSP’s Winternationals and Young Guns Shoot-Out are $15 per night (adults). Reserved tickets are an additional $5 and can be purchased in advance by calling 912-964-8200 or on line at the speedway website www.ospracing.net (http://www.ospracing.net/). Complimentary child’s admission tickets are available only at Sport Clips Haircuts.
