GM Performance Fastrak Dirt Late Models Final Touring Event for 06 features the “Heinz Performance 50” $20,000 Weekend!

The final weekend of the regular touring season of the Fastrak Dirt Late Models is coming to the Carolina Speedway in Gastonia NC Sept 29th. The “Heinz Performance 50” is sure to be a big hit as it will be the first time in history the Fastrak Late Model Series has raced at Carolina Speedway. Other sponsors for the event include City Chevrolet of Charlotte NC, Montgomery Towing, Sunoco Fuels and Hi Bridge Automotive.

Lee Cooper of South Carolina comes into the event as the series only 4 time winner in a single season and leading the Southern Region points. Chris Carlson from Wisconsin currently leads the Mid West and Mid East Region points while maintaining 3rd place in the Southern Region as well. Local hero Timbo Mangum from Lancaster SC has ran well all year and recently scored his first Fastrak Late Model win at Lancaster Speedway just five weeks ago. Look for other local teams that have not raced with the Fastrak Series this year competing that night as everyone is getting ready for the Grand Nationals Oct 19th-21st and the upcoming Lowes Motor Speedway event for the series cars on November 3rd.

The Fastrak Late Model series does exciting things for the fans including a chance to win a brand new pick up truck on the front straight, cash during the “fans in the stands” drawing for the top 6 starting positions, the Fastrak infamous “tennis ball toss” after on track driver introductions with cash in EVERY tennis ball and fireworks as the drivers get buckled in for some of the most exciting side by side racing ever to be seen. At the last Fastrak event the fans actually came and shook hands and thanked the Officials for bringing Fastrak to Wytheville Raceway.

The Series although racing in Gastonia NC on Friday will then head to Riverside Speedway Sept 30th for the final Saturday night event for the 2006 season. Then the Grand Nationals Oct 19th-21st bringing more dirt late model cars to the South East than ever seen before.

The $20,000 weekend is the last opportunity for drivers to qualify for the upcoming $250,000 Grand National Championship and score points they take into that event. The Grand Nationals is the single largest points fund for the “grass roots racers” in the history of dirt racing. The Championship pays a cool $50,000 in cash along with other contingency awards.

Be there as this is the last time you get to se the Fastrak Late Models until Oct. You won’t be disappointed!!
