Have gone from AR to Hoosiers and was wondering if the psi's were totally different or the same. Hoosier says to run RF 12 RR 10 LF 10 LR 7. But on the AR we ran RF12 RR 9 LF 8 LR 6 and when it slicked out went to RF10 RR 7.5 LF 7 LR 5. Do the Hoosiers need the more psi b/c their so wide and big or is it simply their baselines. Thanks for the input everyone.

Wow... That is pretty low pressure for the RR and RF.

My advice would be to get a temp gun or a pyrometer and check your tire temps. If they are within 10 deg across the surface of the tire, then your pressure is good. If the center is colder than the edges, then you don't have enough pressure. This will get your traction where it needs to be regardless of tire brand.

Now, on a slightly different note, if your rear tires are have more than a 10 deg split between the average temps of each, then that tells you where you need to add traction. If the LR is colder, you need to add LR traction or remove RR traction. Just something else to think about.

With the WRs-55 and the AM Spec-56, the LR on the AM needed a pound or so more air then the Hoosiers. The AM would run on the outside of the tires and needed more air. THe AM's are wider then the WRS-55.

These are the SPEC tires the opens are likely difference.

Anybody got the tire pressures recommended by Hoosier for the new generation tires?

We normally run RF12 LF10 RR10 LR6 on Hoosiers, regardless of compound. However, I've seen LR tires that look even lower, judging by the wrinkled sidewall. Even when we drop the LR to 5.5 for slick conditions, our tires never seem to display this wrinkle. Are guys running much lower than 5.5 or 6PSI on the LR?

Also, what percentage of teams do you think are running nitrogen in their tires instead of standard compressed air? We've got a small nitrogen bottle, but we use it for the shocks, and use compressed air for the tires.

I usally run something like this with my Hoosiers. Regardless of compound.

RF 10
RR 10- 11 - 12
LF 09
LR 06

I dont mess with the nitrogen and I dont know to many that do. Like everyone else we tried it years ago and now I just wish I had the extra money for more tires.

Good luck

I have run as low as 4 in the LR before, but i wouldn't say thats the answer but that night for some reason the tire temps callled for that. We run nitrogen but i don't know if it makes that much of a difference. We run are psi according to temps. and we adjust every race but my above written combo seemed to be the most common starting point for AR's. This week is the first on Hoosiers so i'll let ya know what i find but thanks everyone for the input!

What would cause the inside edge 1500 Hoosier on the RR to blister? Yet the temp of the tire was ok.

Alot of times due to stagger. Excess stagger leans the top of both rear tires to the left, so it runs on the inside of the RR when not cornering.

Adding some cuts or sipes in that area can release some of the heat and help stop that but too much can make it chunk and tear.

Talking tires in general no expeirence with that perticular tire.
