Going to the Alabama State races in Phenix city in 2 wks.

Hoping to get input on tire compound selection...open tires..
2500 lb iron head flat top flat tappet sportsman division..

Will probably qualify early afternoon, track will likely be dry-slick
and will have taken on some rubber..Will get 2 laps...
If heat races are necessary, will probably be well after dark
when moisture will be in track..

Any Ideas??
Thanks

I'd be curious to see what Biz might say, as that is in his neck of the woods, but 1350's with a 1400 RR (or 1400 LR and 2400 RR depending on how much rubber is down) would probably be ok for qualifying (no plugs) and then, depending on the moisture in the surface, either 1350's with a 1400 RR or 1350's all the way around.

You'll probably need to qualify on 1600's. But in my opinion the 56 will kick the 1600's ass. Race time at night, I would go with 1350's on right side 1300's on left. That hoosier 1350 is a damn good tire as much as I hate to say it and pretty tough..I can hook you up with an email address for a buddy that lives down there and they are pretty fast, he can tell you more than me. I never run at this track. But Thick55 would probably be willing to help you guys all weekend

Wow... that place must take a lot of rubber for qualifying, and then change quite drastically to go from 1600's to 1350's like that...

See, I told ya I'd be curious to hear Biz' take on that...

Qaulifying during the day time with 200 other cars. The cadet or sportsman race will be 3AM in the morning the following night...Well that is what its like for the National 100. Not sure on the state race. If its just a day race, then you'll need 56's and 70's.

We have been running a sportsman car the past couple of weeks there.
And made about 100 laps Sunday during the day.(We burned 3 sets of tires up)
I drove by there today and he had it tilled up and was adding ground up sheet rock to the track.
I had a real good Idea on tires after Sunday but now I don't know.
send me a pm or email michaelhs18@yahoo.com and I will help all I can.

I am not familier with the new Hoosier numbers but the Sportsman are qualifying around Noon along with the crates and SLM's (after a morning practice session for all cars.)
3-11's and 21(If early) A/R's 3-38's/44-48 optional RR
3-21's and 45/55 A/R's 4-44's/48-56 optional RR
2-21's and possible a 28

And Biz is right. Last year we qualified at 11:30 in the morning and ran our heats at 2 am Sunday morning.
