After Hoosier developed the new generation tire I noticed alot of people started running the American Racers and doing well. Does any body have experience with both tires and can offer their opinion of what differences you feel between the two. Lap times, consistency, starts?

I have run both this year in 25 lap races and 50/75 lap races. Both of the soft compounds are good. On 25 lap features the American Racer 44-48 tires are hard to beat. AR has several tread designs for the rear tires, I personally like the DTW(rain thread) for the RR(but track like Muskingum, the LSW is the way to go). It(DTW) can take a lot of heat(runs cooler than the LSW) and wears nice. LR, I like the wide 88's tires(i.e. 88-44 or 88-48). But I think AR has really shined this year with there new BT 56! This is between the Hoosier 1500 and 1600. Even though this tire is hard, it fires from lap 1 and never seems to fade during a long race. If a track is really slick(Florence, a slick hagerstown, etc.) the Hoosier LM 40(better than the 1600 in my opinion) is the best tire for "edges" when edges are needed. I think the LM 40 is slightly harder than the AR BT 56. The AR 53 is good at tracks where there is some abrasion. I dont like to run the BT 44 or BT 48 because if the track is a little abrasive it will peal the edges quickly! The AR 57 is good on black, sandy abrasive tracks, but the BT56 seems to work just as good so the 57, I think, is on its way out but it is a good tire. The old D-35 Hoosier is still good at tracks that are slick but not abrasive, not sure where they get these 'old" tires but I have seen them run this year.
I am not as "up to date" with the Hoosiers as I am the Racers because Hoosier has been changing so much the last few years but those are my opinions. Also I feel that some Hoosiers will quit after a caution where as the Racer tires stay more consistent throughtout the race.
Some tracks surfaces like the Racers and some favor the Hoosiers. Here are my 15 years of experience with American Racers;
Soft wet conditions 23's 33's 38's.
Medium conditions 44(there best all round tire) or 48's(will still fire even if tacky)
Hard abrasive 48,s(25 lappers) 53's or BT 56's(Did I mention I love this tire!)
Hard, black, abrasive,sandy abrasive 57(equivalent to the old Hoosier 46)
50(equivalent to the old Hoosier 28)
Note: a lot of times I will go straight from a 48 to a 56(the 53 will not work if there is no abrasion)
Talk to Fred, Mark, or Lynn at American Racer 1 800 638-7028 and they can hook you up to the right tires(type/compound) for almost any track in the country. Also can give advise on grooving and siping tires for certain tracks.

Anybody got a list to post that gives the comparisons of the old Hoosier numbers to the new ones. Just getting started in a Crate and could use the info. I know Hoosier had one out at the beginning of last year but can't find it anywhere now. Nothing on their website that I can find either.

Have been an AR guy all my life but this year all i've been doing is being beat by hoosiers. I to love the 44 rain tread tires, the bt's & gt's i have grown to hate. My problem is i can never get anything to "fire". it seems like its either 23's or straight to 44's for me. I went with hoosiers for the in between stuff now. We now have 1 23 BT RR, 1100 Hoosier RF,LR, 1200 RR,RF,LR, 44 Rain tread RR,RF,LR. 48 rain tread RR. And Hoosier 1300 RR,RF,LR,LF. and 1400 RR. Its hard to go back and forth but sometimes you have to. Thats my take.
