ESPN NASCAR analyst Brad Daugherty joined Bret Bakita "On the Bench" on WBBL-AM Grand Rapids this week to talk about the 50th running of the Daytona 500.

Daugherty, who played college basketball at North Carolina and spent eight seasons in the NBA, said many of the experts are picking Tony Stewart, but he's got other ideas.

"I'm going with (Dale) Earnhardt Jr.," said Daugherty, who wore No. 43 on the basketball court to honor driver Richard Petty. "He really has a super race car. He's one of the most prolific restrictor-plate racers we have."

Daugherty said Hendrick Motorsports could be becoming a dynasty within NASCAR.

"You have to beat Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson and now Dale Earnhardt," Daugherty said. "It's just an formidable challenge to go up against those guys."
