LEXINGTON, KY - The beginning of the 2006 racing season for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series is getting ready to kick into high gear as the side-by-side, dirt slingin' excitement heads to the Golden Isles Speedway in Brunswick, GA on Friday Night, February 3 to kick off the 2006 campaign. With a $10,000 to win purse on the line the first points race of the new season should draw an outstanding field of participants.
After Golden Isles Speedway, the series heads to East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL for the 30th Annual East Bay Winternationals beginning on Monday Night, February 6. The first three nights at East Bay will feature $5,000 to win events and will be non-points races for the series participants. The final three nights of competition will count towards the 2006 Series Championship run with a $7,000, $10,000 and $12,000 first place payoffs on the line Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
At the present time there are several new venues on the 2006 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series schedule with Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, SC, Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, MD, Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS, Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, IA, Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO and Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway in Dubuque, IA all hosting Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series events for the first time.
With the success of the '05 season the series will return to Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, IN to kick off the month of April with a $10,000 to win event. Other tracks scheduled to host events at this time include: Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA, Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, TN, Farley Speedway in Farley, IA, LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle, IL, Florence Speedway in Union, KY, Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, WI, Muskingum County Speedway in Zanesville, OH, Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, IL, Bluegrass Speedway in Bardstown, KY, Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, WV, West Virginia Motor Speedway in Mineral Wells, WV and Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway in Calvert City, KY.
Tracks holding more than one event this season with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series include: Brownstown, Dixie, Cedar Lake, LaSalle and Kentucky Lake. So far 31 events have been scheduled at 22 different race tracks across the country.
Additional dates and events are being negotiated and will be announced and added to the schedule.
The series will also be introducing a new limited compound tire rule for each event on the 2006 Schedule. The brands and compounds allowed are the: Hoosier LM20, 1300, LM40, 1600, D55 (Shoulder Plated), the American SD44 and MD56 and the Goodyear G40 and G50. Soft compound tires must durometer 40 and hard compound tires must durometer 60 before racing.
