Results from The Raceway at Powercom Park

by Dennis Thompson

BEAVERDAM, Wis. -- In a special July 3rd program at The Raceway at Powercom Park, A-Main wins were scored by Al Schlafer in the MSA Sprints, Eric Barth and Keith Moline in the Gibbsville Cheese INEX Legends/Wisconsin Legends Racing Dirt Series and Kirt Boers in the Mini-Sprints. The Royal Purple Synthetic Lubricants sponsored event featured some of the closest racing so far this season.

Al Schlafer held off the late race challenge from his son, Danny, to capture the 25-lap MSA Sprint A-Main. David O’Neal, who contended for the top spot throughout the event finished in third. Joe Wipperfurth had a strong run with a fourth place finish. Robbie Wirth drove to fifth. For a detailed report on the MSA Sprints action, check out www.msasprints.com or www.wismotorsports.com.

In the first of two Gibbsville Cheese INEX Legends/Wisconsin Legends Racing Dirt Series 20-lap A-Mains, Eric Barth of Sauk City quickly moved up from his outside front row starting position to take the lead away from Warren Ropp of Kalona, IA on lap two. Adam Reed of Beaver Dam also was on the move and in the hunt for the top spot. The only caution of the event occurred on lap three for a spin by Tom Hunter of Merrill in turn four. When action resumed, Barth continued to lead while the rest of the field battled for position. Both Brad Weber of Rolling Prairie, who started the event outside row six, and Keith Moline of Cedar Rapids, IA, who started outside row seven, were on an impressive charge to the front. By lap five Moline moved into fourth, while Weber ran sixth. Moline was third on lap seven and two laps later took over the second spot. He soon closed in on Barth and began to challenge for the lead. Barth proved to be too strong as he held onto the top spot to take his third win of the season. In a thrilling dash for position, Reed, Ropp and Weber raced three wide across the line to claim the third, fourth and fifth place finishes, respectively.

The second 20-lap A-Main for the Legends proved to be every much as exciting as the first. Loren Zuhlke Jr. of Beaver Dam led the opening two laps before Eric Barth once again made the pass for the lead after charging from his fourth row starting position. The first caution of the event came on lap five for a spin by Tom Hunter in turn two. Back under green and just as it was in the first A-Main, Barth was hotly pursued by Keith Moline. The two would exchange the lead four times over the next five laps. The battle continued with Barth out in front and Moline repeatedly pulling to the inside of Barth. A spin by Ric Mattie of Franksville on lap eighteen brought out the caution for the second time in the event and set up the two- lap dash to the end. When the green flag waved for the restart, Barth and Moline went back at it again. In the drag out of turn four and down the front straight on the final lap, Moline edged out Barth right at the line to pick up his first win of the season at the Raceway. Bethany Wyttenbach of Plain ran very strong and recorded her best finish of the season by taking third. Brother, Joel Wyttenbach drove to fourth. Brad Weber followed in fifth and moved into second in the point standings behind leader Eric Barth.

Kirk Boers of Madison led from start to finish to claim the win in the 20-lap Mini-Sprint A-Main. Ron Brannon of Barrington, IL moved up from the fourth row to finish in second. Austin Archdale of Brimfield, IL, who started alongside Brannon, drove to third. Randy Reed of Spring Grove, IL followed in fourth ahead John Draper of Racine.

Legend heat race wins were recorded by Warren Ropp and Eric Barth. The Mini-Sprint heat wins were registered by Ron Brannon and Austin Archdale.
