What seems to be the average amount of left rear bite people are running with the swingarm late models? I've heard as much as 300#s does that seem acurate? Also does it change if you run the big rear spring setup? Thank you for any info on this.

Lots of variable here: But on average I would say most are between 200 to 280 from the rayburn guys I talk to. 300# or more isn't as common as it used to, but I'm sure there are a number of guys that get there regularly.

Two guys with similar set-ups and one may only have 180 and the other 280, so alot is driver preference and making the rest of the set-up package work for them.

Thank you for your help. What in your opinion is the most common spring setup with the swingarm rear? Are the stiffer rear springs becoming more popular ie500-600# range than the 300-400# range also do you not run as soft rf spring on a swingarm car than a 4 bar on the hook car? Also do many people run a softer rf than lf spring on the swingarm stuff? Thank you.

What is the stickiest track anyone has ran they're rayburn on and did you have to run considerably less cros/bite than the set up sheet asks for? And when do you use the 500 lf 600 rf and 600 rear springs? Are they for a super hooked up tight track? Thanks for a reply.

From what I know: The higher rate packages work well in the traction but give alot of people fits in the slicker tracks. You have to hustle the cars pretty hard or as I like to say "Don O'neal them". You just have to be pretty aggressive with them and that is hard to do with some consistency unless you have alot of time in one.

Alot of guys kind of mix the packages or use a variable of the older softer spring package mixed with slightly stiffer springs.

200-230 is about what we run on our swing arm set ups. when using the heavy rear springs you have to be aggressive, as in heavy track throw it in backwards and stand on it. but in our experience when the track slicks off you are out to lunch from being so tight in throught the middle. we have worked around the entire car springs, shocks, and wheel weights.(without the heavy springs) and at our "local" track when it is the slickest no body can touch our car even 4bars.

I'm just a weekend hack, but I'll tell you what seems to work for me, an you can decide if the info is any good.
I end up around 180 pounds of bite, most of the time, and not only have I not been able to get my car to work with the big rear springs, I've ended up running a pair of 300's in the rear.(this may be partly because of real limited motors, I'm not sure)
This is on my local 3/8 mile track, that doesn't have a ton of banking, and tends to get dry.

The drivers that race in Texas on this board: Anyone run a Rayburn and is your track rough and hooked up? I know the surface has been described in the past somewhere on here.

On the left rear of a swingarm car does a stiffer spring give more forward bite or should you run just stiff enough to hold the car up?

On mine, a softer lr gives it more forward bite. The softer spring gives it more travel(it gets up on the bars better).

I run an old underslung chassis, and if I go to soft on the lr, it gets up on the bars so fast and so high, that the chassis hits the axle tube and unloads the lr.

I forgot to mention that I am running the long panhard bar to the right. If you run a j-bar to the left, you don't need to be as soft on the lr, as the angle of the j-bar will help it get up on the bars. (Does that sound right, big bird?)

Yes!

CJ used to list (probably still does) that as soon as the track slicks up to soften the LR from a 400 to a 300 LR spring. Same principle as a 4-bar car allows the LR to climb the bar easier once the track gets slower.

What shocks do you need on a swingarm soft com / stiff reb /

I asked CJ about different shocks one time. He asked what I had on it. I told him 3comp/5rebound in all 4 corners.(what he says to use) He said; "Your shocks are fine, leave them on there and stop worrying about shocks. I don't know why guys think they need different shocks every time they take a crap."

I can tell you though, with 3comp shocks, on swing arms, if you got her hiked up and lift........It comes down like you're in the shop and someone kicked the jackstands out from under the rear!

That is very true!

Has anyone tried running shocks behind the axle to help settle this down... I know this will alter your entry depending on valving but would help drive the car into the corner/middle better

It's fairly common to see a shock on the back of the LR birdcage on a Rayburn.

Here is how I heard Pinion handles those "ladies of the night". He tells them he will give them $10,000 to "do it his way". Once he gets done and they realize nothing unusal about it, they ask him what he meant about "his way".

He simply tells them - On credit baby, thats my way.

A little tip that I learned years ago, when I had broken my ankle;
If you get you one of those swinging cup holders (like you put in a boat), and put it on one of your crutches, it makes it alot easier to carry your beer!!!
