Well, since it been quiet around here and after this mornings issues with the emergency room at the local hospital, I thought I'd vent a little and do my final rant for 2007 (maybe you never know).
My mother was taking some of her pills this morning and mis-sollowed a pill and became lodged in her throat/windpipe to where she could hardly breathe. So I decide to take her to the hospital emergency room as I figured I could make her cough it up myself but if something went wrong or made it worse then I'd be screwed. I get her to the emergency room (she had already called the doctors office) and then we wait, wait, and wait some more. The emergency tech guy was nice (and not really his fault about the situation) and was trying to getting a doctor to come but after waiting 45 minutes, I started getting pissed. The tech said he had paged a doctor Baker (who is an idiot in my and my mom's opinion).
Another patient who had gotten there before use (who knows how long) walks by and tells the tech he is leaving and going home. The tech says the doctor should be here any minute but the guy doesn't care and says he's leaving. Less then a minute after the guy leaves the doctor (Dr. Anderson) shows up (for him NOT my mother) and then proceeds to turn around and leave (I'm just hearing this and the doctor says he's going back to his office).
Ok, this is where I go "BIZKIT"! I proceed to run out of the room and climb over the front counter and grab this little putz of a doctor and I'm freaking ready to wail on his butt, when my mother comes out of the room and has coughed up the pill. Seeing that she was doing much better, I calmed down and apologized for my actions. They proceed to tell me that Dr. Baker is the doctor assigned to emergency that day and that the other patient was being seen by Dr. anderson and that Baker would be here shortly, so I go back to the room and wait. I here the tech call Baker and tell him that she coughed up the pill, so NOW I figure he will take his sweet time (like he hasn't already).
After talking to my mother an making sure she was fine, we decided that she didn't want to wait another hour just to have this idiot show up and tell he to drink some water and take it easy. So we left, but not before I let the bird fly. I fell a little bad that I did that as the tech guy was nice, but there wasn't anyone else to flip off so he had to do.
The sad part of all of this is that my dad (passed now)pretty much single handedly saves that hospital by getting the 2 hospitals to join several years ago. One hospital was a public hospital and the other a private practice, but both were not doing very well finacially. The private hospital was doing better then the public one but they also didn't have very good or new equipment and were limited to what they could do and the public one was loosing money left and right and wouldn't be able to keep the doors open much longer. My dad got the city to buy out the pivate practice and merge the two hospitals which made one big hospital and made it cost effective to operate it. He then became a hospital board member and helped restructure the new conjoined hospital and it started to actually make a small profit and served on the board until his death in 2001. I excepted an award in 2003 from the mayor for my dad for his roll in helping to save the hospital on the 5 year anniversary of the merger.
While I don't think she should have gotten special treatment because of this, but if that is how they treat her I could imagine how everyone else gets treated.
I'm still fuming over this one!
Ok, I'm done now but at least it something to read.
