I was wondering if someone could give me an Idea of what people are doing with the late model motors as far as parts. Also who does good port work on the bow ties?And if anyone could point me in the right direction on a cam and gears I would really apreciate it.I could also use a baseline setup if possible.thanks

There's 3 guys that come to mind to answer that: LM23, pinionangle, or claybuster as those are the only 3 that I now have raced there. LM23 can give the most info as they race there weekly.

I don't think any of those three get on here this late at night so by tommorrow you should have some kind of reply.

No problem. As far as parts go, all I can say is use the best your dollars can buy. I use bowite or dart blocks only, as far as internals - there again, only what is considered the best. For example:
Pistons = Mahle or JE
Rods = Carrillo, Dyer or Oliver
Cranks = Callies or Crower.

As far as head work, we are now doing all our own.

Cam, I have tried several and have a grind that we now tend to stick with. Not wanting to be a smart azz about it but something a little more than a "baseline" type for a 1/2 mile and then go from there.

Gears, we turn most nights 8800rpm. I know some that are running 5.85 all the way up to 6.40's.

Setup, if it is a 4 bar car, stiffen one spring over mfg'ers baseline and tune from there.

Surprised Pinion hasnt pitched in, must be busy or something.
Flattire, is from there I think?
I have no experience with the local program, we only ran one weekend race up there and left with a blowed up motor on the second night.
I would say you need GOOD parts to stay together, from what I hear I think the weekly program favors the all iron motor. . .

Sorry, not much help.

For 2008 season cars running the SUPR spec will be allowed to weigh 2150. That is fine with me, but we made the decision at the end of the year to go all iron and have no regrets what so ever. With the track being what it is, the power advantage of anything goes iron head over a Spec is still not going to balance out for the 150# weight difference. Especially when all cars will still pick up the 200#'s of mud !!!

Here’s what I do when we make the trip up there to race,

SUPR "style" engine, again with the best, lightest parts you can afford, I use a wall2wall engine when we go, on gas which I think is hurting me with there short features and the hooked up track.

I've learned you need to do what ever you can to keep the mud off the car. I've seen mud flaps; tarps under the deck, custom mud flares bolted to the deck you name it. I just stick with baby oil and mud off mixed together. Scrap the car after it comes off the track and spray it down. If you don’t get the mud off it changes the balance of the car and you’re done. 3' wheelies and throttle tight sucks at that place.

I use a 6:30 gear and turn my engine around 8600-8700 running the taller tires.

Tires are another thing there, your gonna need to have something that will move the dirt, I usually spend a fair amount of time on mine.

I usually run a conventional spring setup with my 4-link setup and I stay somewhere around 40 to 60 pounds of left rear. I've actually won a race up there with right rear weight. (I think the mud build up had something to do with the weight percentages)

NOW if I was gonna go back up to that monster and race with there screwed up rules this is what I’d show up with.

A new rayburn on a z-link, build it as light as I could, I’d use a bowtie engine, cheat that hooker up and I’d make sure I had a 972 area code.

Good luck

I still have my Spec heads, but we will be sticking with iron ones. Michael said after the first night that there was a definite difference in the power, especially coming off the corners. And there still some work that we are going to do on the heads before the season starts.

Check your PM's Pinion.

A lot of the spec motor guys run a 6.28 gear. One of the Bowtie guys that goes pretty good runs a 5.70ish gear. As far as set up, I found that the standard setup for my Shaw car was way way too tight. Take plenty of jbar and LRU bar angle out of it. The name of the game on the setup is getting the car freed up enough.

thanks for the info
