Do some of you guys running mastersbilt cars raise the engine up at the front motor mounts? I looked at a masters yesterday with a 604 crate engine in it, I noticed he had the engine up about an inch or so at the front mounts.

What are the thoughts behind this with a steel block car?

Thanks to dumb, I wonder if it matters that these 604's have alumin. heads?

You're welcome. The way I see it, it's lighter with the alum. heads, but the cg of the motor is lower (and still heavier than an all alum. motor), so I would think you would still want to raise it. I'm sure that one of the smart guys will be along soon to tell you how dumb I am.

I can tell you I have seen plenty of fast MasterS with an aluminum head/iron block and the engine is at "standard" height.

I don't really think it matters all that much.

I've always thought the same and with our SUPR spec engine we've always left it standard. We've been fast enough to win with it I just thought maybe there was someting I was missing with the crate deal.

Thanks

Ya see! I post what I think are funny comments and pictures, and it appears I ticked people off. Nobody responded. I try to be serious, and talk tech........I'm 2dumb. I guess I need to just shut-up.

I agree with you 2dumb. I've always felt like there was some benefit to engine placement, and actually preferred it .5 to .75" higher..Even in the masters, but I've got far less seat time in a masters, than the above guys. But like the old saying "there's a lot of ways to skin a cat" Because we all know that pinon likes to shave a beaver *GRIN*

I think it just changes your baseline. Like Biz says, different combinations can yield the same results. I have never run an engine raised more than a half inch for an extended period of time. I can't say I have seen a big difference moving it from side to side either as long as the left side percentage is set where it needs to be. An inch just isn't that much. We race on an ever changing surface with rear axles that steer an incredible amount.
