View Full Version : Another Hoosier/Rocket question
I had heard that Rocket suggest the 88" tire over the 92" tire. Any truth to this and what would I see different in the car between running the two? I am currently on the tall ones.:-?
Also what does "shoulder plated" mean? I see in the description on certain Hoosiers.:-?

I try very hard not to run purple stuff...But I do run the shorter tires on front. Usually 3 of the 4 tires or with in 1" of each other

I would try to find the new tread pattern on the old shell. We run the 28.5's ribbed with the new tread pattern. The 88's or 90's work really good as LR's. I feel they are more like the LSB 28.5's anyways. Which didn't work as fronts very well. The 92's never really worked that well for us either. The 29.0 shell is still the best one I think. Since they went back to the old shell with new tread pattern they have been okay. Having trouble keeping LR small and RR big though. The newer hoosier don't size for $hit. You gotta be real good with your hot marks. It just seemed like the 88's 90's and 92's had too soft of a side wall. Driver always complained about running on flat tires. It's pretty bad when I went 2 to 4 lbs more in the tires and it didn't change the size.
Shoulder plated has the compound stamped in an 1/2" by 4" plate lil' further up on the shoulder of the sidewall than the regular compound stamp.
I love American Racers. They are sooo much easier to work with. Wish they worked on every track condition.

Run 90's/28.5's on high speed tracks and 92's/29.0's on slower/slick tracks, OR tracks that are rough. We've run 90's in the rough too, but the 92's give the car a bit more clearance and they seem to let the car negotiate the conditions better. 88's are too small in my opinion to be used anywhere. We typically use 90's on 3 corners and the 92 RR. Regardless, we always use a 90 on the LR.
The new Hoosier's suck. Period. Please tell them I said so. I would rather put their Spec tires (they offer a number of different compounds) on the car instead. They seem much more stable.

Run American Racers. Unless the track you run at has a purple gun to your head cause they have purple money lining their pockets.

wow, thats the 1st i've read about new hoosiers being bad. when they came out everyone liked i thought. our area is ump LM tire country so new hoosier tires arent seen round here much. I did here last night at limited race that american racer has a new tire coming out just like the new hoosiers. no groove, dimple in middle best thing since sliced bread tire! time will tell if sales pitch is accurate or not though.
you guys running just 90s and 92 inch tires how are you getting stagger?

4 inches is what we get, and that's all we run (+/- a 1/2") in the rear. We run anything from 1/2" to 1.5" across the front, but it is usually under 1". Getting the proper stagger has never been an issue for me with a 90 on the LR.
