Just wondering if any one has run the shorter upper rf on a Mastersbilt. If I'm correct it should be a 7 3/4" bolted to the outside of the frame. An experiences, changes that were needed, and results in handling would be appreciated. Running a 2004 square tube "W" car that is working well, but could be better on one particular short 1/3 mile track with an inconsistent track surface and cushion.

My memory is real good on master as I don't deal with them everyday.
I don't recall the RF upper lengths of hand, so I'm assumming the 7 3/4 is shorter then the std length or you were talking (if the 7 3/4" is STD) about going shorter then the STD length.
That is going to move the rollcenter to the right (assumming mounting point is the same height on the frame) and will also make it migrate to the right pretty dramatic during roll on the RF. I never liked cars with short RF's for this reason, they alway seem unconsisitant. Anything under 8" is getting short (my opinion) especially with the longer lower arm lenghts.

The 7.75 goes in place of the normal 10" in the same mounting holes. I agree with Billet. It can help on a stop and go track, but the front of the cars work really well with the newer stuff. I wouldn't mess with it.
so with a shorter upper a arm on the right front ,could it be a cause of a tighter car trough the corners to the oint off too tight ?

I do believe it mounts in the same holes, and not much else is changed, just the 7.75 in place of the 10". The track in question is a stop and go track which we have good setups to run the top, just looking fr something else to try on the bottom and when it slicks up. The car works well on th other tracks we run using the normal setups. Thanks for the replies.

I saw Kelly Boen and Wendall Wallace trying this one night and they were getting in the corner faster than anybody else.

Question.... I noticed when I had a short a-arm on my masters the car seemed to be more "dartee" <---is that a word?
I wonder if a caster change is in order on the right front when going from a 7 3/4" to a 10" arm? With every thing mounting in the same locations it shouldnt matter should it? The ball joint hasnt moved????

One thing if you didn't reset the bumpsteer, going to the shorter RF upper will generally make it toe out more thru bump travel. Generally more toe out during bump reduces dartyness in most occurances. Caster should stay similar unless it has quite a bit of anti-drive built into the car.

The thing was just steering easier pinion, and your big cornbread fed ass, was man handling it too much *GRIN*
But yawl shouldn't be talking shorter pivot points, big bird can't help, having a shorter than average one....

For real, I never liked using the shorter a-arm. My masters cars turn so well now I cant imagine changing anything.

Without having tried it yet, it seems to me camber change and maybe bump steer would be affected. The added bump steer, if not adjusted for, may be causing the darty feeling? The added camber change keeps more of the rf contact patch planted. I think I'm going to experiment with it at practice this spring. It may be useful to get the car to roll in and get turned without trying to use the throttle to turn the car on the slick. Wonder if any spring or shock changes will be needed at the same time?

Biggun,
Didn't mean to run away with you thread, like we did. Sometimes we get carried away. Sorry about that.

biggun, the shorter upper is going to make it bump out more than it does with the longer, so that want cause a dartie think.
profab...ol big bird head, is a brother and if we weren't slapping each other around on here some, we would be worried the love was lost *GRIN*

I failed to menthion this was on a high speed 1/2 mile track. I would guess the darty feeling wouldnt be a big deal on a slower mph track?
