Lack of zinc

What does zinc actually do in oil? Know some claim don't use Mobil 1 cause of lack of zinc.

It is a wear addative.EPA has made all the oil companys reduce the zinc and phosphate levels in shelf oil not just Mobil 1.Use an after market race oil such as Brad Penn,Schaeffers,Amzoil,Red Line,Royal Purple.Either that or put the addatives back in by adding GM EOS or I use the Comp Cam addative.

I use Northland MXP it is supposed to still have zinc in it.

Any of the aftermarket race oils are better than shelf oil for racing.I use Schaeffers 20W50 Synthetic blend.I think its called 7000 something or other.
