Its been an amazing second half of the season, for Florence, AL's Byron Michael. Midway through the season, he could have easily packed up what was left of his equipment, and closed up shop for the year. After all, he had destroyed a car at North Alabama Speedway, and wore out a sheet metal bender, putting his TNT Fireworks / Performance Connection Rocket, back together, after several incidents. Now, with only one race remaining on the 2007 SRRS schedule, Michael's late-season rally, has put him on the verge, of a title.
Clarksville Speedway was the scene of Michael's latest conquest. A beautiful, crisp, November day, greeted forty-one competitors, from as far away as Council Bluffs, Iowa. Mike Hill, from Rockwood, TN, grabbed the Performance Connection Pole Award, in group qualifying. His Glen's Auto Parts GRT, toured the quarter-mile, with a 13.615 second, fast lap.
Athens, AL's Anthony Burroughs, Campbellsville, KY's Johnnny Wheeler, and Michael, all led their groups, in time trials.
As the race went green, Hill went to the lead, and ran strong, for the first twenty-two circuits. Cautions on lap one, and again for a Gil Smith spin, on lap ten, slowed the field. At the twenty lap mark, it was Hill, followed by Michael, Campbellsville, KY's Tim Tungate, Burroughs, and Wheel, TN's David Gentry.
Michael would finally get by Hill, on lap twenty-two, and on lap twenty-five, Hill, Tungate, and Burroughs, all pulled off of the speedway, as caution waved again, on lap twenty-six, leaving virtually an all-new top five. At that point, Michael led, followed by Gentry, Cleveland's Billy Mayo, Wheeler, and Dunnville, KY's Brad Neat.
A couple of yellows would fly, for a spin by Murfreesboro, TN's Tony Morris, and a lap forty-one mishap for Clarksville's Tony Albright, but the top five remained the same.
Michael took the checkers, well ahead of a second-place battle, won by Gentry over Mayo. Wheeler and Neat, rounded out the top five.
After the race the Performance Connection engine in Michael's B17 car was protested by David Gentry. However Gentry lost his protest money when the engine was declared legal.

SRRS notes...
Michael's win, strengthened his points lead over Mayo, with only one SRRS points race remaining.
