Scott Claims Third Leg of West Virginia State Championship

MIDDLEBOURNE, W.V. -- Shinnston, WV’s Robbie Scott would lead all challenges and claim the running of the 3rd leg of the West Virginia State Championship Series and notch his first victory of the season at the Tyler County Speedway Saturday night. After a couple of jump starts front row starters Keith Barbara and Paul Wilmoth would lead the field to the green with Barbara leading the way with Steve Wilmoth, Robbie Scott, and Mike Benedum in hot pursuit. A three wide battle for the lead lap after lap between Barbara, Wilmoth and Scott would keep race fans on their feet. As Wilmoth would take the lead Barbara would begin to fade but the battle for the top spot was hot and heavy between Wilmoth and Scott until lap 15 when contact was made between the two sending Wilmoth pitside and Scott to the lead. Scott would hold off Mike Benedum and Sonny Conley the rest of the way to claim the victory. Rounding out the top ten were Steve Weigle, Jared Hawkins, Greg Baumberger, Kenny Johnson, Keith Barbara, Doug Eaton and Chuck Harper.

Mike Benedum of Bristol, WV would claim his third Litman Excavating Semi Late feature in a row. Benedum’s victory would not be easy as he would charge from his 12th starting spot methodically working his way to the front and pass race leader Gary Midcap on lap 16 to park the Eric Hudkins owned ride in the Allen’s Pontiac Victory lane once again. Following Benedum across the stripe were Gary Midcap, Buck Rine, Billy Brown, and Joel Prosser.

In the Sound Source AMRA Modified division it was Clarington, OH’s Darrin Glover notching his third victory of the season. Glover would chase Darrin Smith in the early portion of the feature from his third starting spot and would eventually overtake the leader on lap 9 to cruise to the Allen’s Pontiac Victory Lane. Following Glover was Jr. Nolan, Smith, last week’s winner Mark Dickson, and Dale Keplinger.

Brian Shaffer of Cairo, WV would take the checkered flag in the DM Automotive Pure Stock division leading all 15 circuits aboard his red and yellow #44. A four car battle would wage throughout the race as Shaffer, Mick Baker, Danny Thomas and Brian Rush would lead the pack but at the stripe it was Shaffer followed by Baker, Rush, Kevin Dotson and Ted Bier.

In the Wayside Furniture dwarf car main event it was Pennsboro, WV’s Brandon McCready driving the Bob Butcher owned B4 to the Allen’s Pontiac victory lane. McCready would take his first victory of the season and stop the Hall brothers stranglehold on Tyler County Speedway’s victory lane. Finishing behind McCready were Trent Hall, Mike Hickman, Tyler Hall and Jim Ruckman.

Claiming victories in the Custom Engraving Junkyard Warrior divisions were Mark Cross followed by Michael Stevens, Frank Starkey, Josh Fulks, and Bill Doll. In the second Junkyard Warrior main event it was Ivan Wamsley followed by Brandon Doll, John Sinnett, Mitch Eddy, and Steven Dotson.

Next week at the Tyler County Speedway will be the first ever appearance of Monster Trucks to the facility featuring car crushing action, World Record Motorcycle jumper Doug Danger and Tommy Quad plus racing action in the DM Automotive Pure Stocks, Wayside Furniture Dwarf Cars, Custom Engraving Junkyard Warriors, and Sistersville Center Mini Wedges. Gates open at 4 and racing at 7.
