I've seen kid rocket was running without a spoiler brace on the right side, when he won at PPMs last week. Just curious to what they are trying to do, and if its worth trying. Thanks.

The idea is to get additional air on the spoiler since you are usually sliding across the corner somewhat. A bigger application of this is that wedge cars had the plexiglass on the left side and not the right so that this same air wasn't completely blocked from the spoiler. In this case, I don't think there is any way this would make a noticeable difference.

This is pure rumor, her-say, or whatever:

I was told that with thier afilliation with Steward they got some wind tunnel time and found that installing a cable or rod instead of a side board panel you could pick up some downforce when the car had a slight drift. I could see that so there could be truth to it.

I beleive the first place he ran it at was the Show-me.

Rocket has had cars in the wind tunnel many times so I am told. They are very tight with GM, and now with Tony, that affiliation obviously can't hurt either.

When going in a straight line, wouldn't some of the air go around the edge? (The path of least resistance.) Instead of over the spoiler? Or is the idea here to gain downforce where you need it most from mid-turn to exit?

From what little I know about areo-engineering, a spoiler doesn't do alot if there isn't the sideboards to hold the air from spilling off the ends of the spoiler. So my guess is your last statement is the most correct. With the car side ways the RR sideboard is limiting the amount of air that can "GET" to the spoiler and over comes the loss from loosing the air off the RR side (which probably doesn't happen since that is the direction the air is coming from anyways.)

there's a local modified guy doing this too....in my opinion all it is good for is keeping your attention focused on something illegitimate instead of looking at the stuff worth looking at.

we.ve tried it driver said it did seem to tighten the car up some we used a spoiler brace 18 inches from right side towards center of the car and 1/4 inch cable on the outside . the first track said after we ran it it would not be allowed per safety reasons what ever that meant and the second track would not let us run it at all so if your not kid rocket i would not expect to get a lot of cooperation from series or racetracks
