I was at the track this past w/e and I had seen one racer who had mounted some new tires that were wrapped in plastic. Not heavy plastic like you would use to wrap food at home. It was wrapped only around the tread not the side of the tires. Why would they do that?

More than likely the tire had been treated. I did this back in my go-kart days. It keeps the chemicals from evaporating.

maybe they are playing mind games... is he treating his tires... do i need to treat my tires to go faster...

Treating tires at our tracks are suppose to be against the rules. Though I don't know if its ever been checked. They didn't wrap all the tires they had. Only two or three that were in the back of the truck.

I hate to call anyone a cheater without evidence, but that is suspiscious enough that I wouldn't blame someone if they protested that and had the tires checked for tire softeners. I can't see a real good reason to wrap the tires unless they were treated.
