View Full Version : Raceceiver
I'm going to get a raceceiver soon. Is the drivers ear piece necessary for racing, or will the standard ear piece suffice?
Where is the best or most affordable place to get them?
Thanks!

Alot of the sactioning bodies are requiring them now, you can usually buy or rent one from that sactioning body. I haven't used one personally but I see alot of drivers just use a standard ear piece. I haven't heard any complaints about the STD ear piece.

We bought our own unit. They work very good. The biggest drawback is if you are at a track that is just getting used to using them, there can be some confusion. Any of the touring series you run with will have someone very talented on the radio & it is a great help both on yellows & lineups. Ours cost about $200.00. The standard set of earphones works fine. If you buy one, you will have to find out which channel the track is on when you get there. Different tracks run on different channels.
Hope this helps.

Our local track is selling them for $130. Haven't started to use them yet bet were supposed to in the next week or two.

I asked Sat night about frequencies -- "OUR" track said they do not know what the frequency is. That is something the Raceceiver is supposed to do. So Flat, you know what it will be like. I have asked and Brenda has asked about it, they do not know. This is probably just a way for them to sell a few, make some $$ and then say "they are not working like we thought, so we will not be using them".

If nobody at your track really knows what frequency it is, then its probably the default, 454.00000. I cannot imagine a track mandating the Raceiver and not knowing what frequency they use. When you do get one, be sure and go down close to the track before determining yours is not working. At my track they don't work in the pits, out of range.
If you don't use the spongy ear buds, make sure you have some that fit inside your ear and seal good so you can hear, and tape them in.
My track sells them for $130 as well. This includes the Raceiver unit, ear plugs, holder, and a one night battery. If your track is charging more you need to look online. I think the Raceiver unit only is going for about $85.
*Take the battery out* when not in use. The battery will drain down even when the unit is turned off.
When used properly, these things are awesome. The whole night goes smoother. Staging, lineup, and the racing is much safer. Even though I am a newbie racer, I am old school, and when our track first went to them, I thought it was taking away something. People should watch the flag man I said. However, having gone this year, I can tell you without a doubt it has saved me one car, and possibly two. Get turned around exiting a corner and face a field heading toward you and you will immediately appreciate the voice telling everyone to stop.
I/we have been running the Raceceiver with SUPR for several seasons and are very familiar with their care, use and frequency adjustments. This is a track that is all about money. This track would and will mandate it just like they "mandate" several other things.
And to be honest - they probably really do not know the frequency nor do they care as long as everyone buys one.

I wonder if the bowl is going to have problems using them with the airport next door? Or is that even a issue?
I can just hear it now:
Pilot: im heading in due east at blah blah blah
Flagman: 5 laps to go.
Tower: your clear to land/Corner worker: crash in two
Pilot: huh?

We have used one for 3 seasons, works really well, most tracks will use the default freq. of 454.0000, We use the standard ear plugs that come w/the unit. Sometime put a peice of duct tape over thar ear to seal it off.
They are $94.95 direct from
www.raceceiver.comht (http://www.raceceiver.com/default.aspxp://www.raceceiver.com/default.aspx)
BTW, the raceceiver uses common UHF frequencies, The airport will be VHF lowband, so there be no way to land a 747 on the back stretch!
