Ok.

Having worked solely with modifieds in the past, I have a question that I'm sure is going to make me look like an idiot straight off the bat.

What is the best way to get the 5th arm/coil and 6th coil setup? Does it require any being unhooked, etc during scaling, or anything else?

The car is for a driver that only has one night experience in a late model, after 13 years experience in a modified. The car has the normal shock in front and coilover behind on LR, but on the RR it's got the Coilover in front on the birdcage, but then a second spring on a dummy shock clamped behind.

I'm thinking i'm going to take the clamped up spring off the back of the RR and go back to normal GRT baselines since the driver is new to late models.

Anyone want to give any setup advice for a new driver to late models, how to setup the 5th arm/coil and 6th coil? And what changes to the GRT Baselines should we look at with us having to run a steel block engine?

Thanks

Unless the 5th coil has a ton of preload in it it won't effect the scaling numbers.

Just set the torque are so it is around level with the rear end at ride heights by adjusting the chain length on the 6th coil, then adjust the rodends on the torque arm where it bolts onto the rear end if you need to adjust the pinion angle. Once all that is set, set the car on the ground and screw the fifth coil nut down until you get the desired preload. Usually anything from 1/8" to 1/2" is normal, more preload is usually used if the spring rate is softer.

Typically you will have to increase the front springs slightly or at least the RF for the heavier engine. Usually a 50# increase is a good place to start, just watch for the RF bottoming out the shock or coil binding the spring if you are using a 10" spring.

excellent. That's what I needed to know. the first night out in the car it was crap...but the owner of the car wanted us to run it like he had it before we changed anything.

he had a 300lb spring in the RF and it was bottoming out the RF horrendously bad. We'll make some changes upfront and make sure everything is along the guidelines you gave on the 5th arm and go from there.

thanks
