I have an aluminum 18* 417 chevy engine. Last fall I took the jesel bolts out to release the tension on the valve springs. Could anyone tell me if there are any standard torque specs/sequence I should use when tightening them back down? And does the cylinder have to be on the compression stroke when they get torqued/tightened?
Also, are there torque specs for tightening the flywheel coupler to the crank?
And as far as the bellhousing and motor supports do they get torqued or do most of these things pretty much just go by feel?
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Are you taking the bolts holding down the stands or the shafts to the rocker arms. I'm assuming you are talking the three bolts that hold the shafts down.
I don't recall the torque, but I just tighten them down by feel. Probably not the correct way but it has worked or years without problems.
As far as the others, torque valve is only good if you know the bolt being used so most of those are just by feel. However you can go off a univeral torque chart for bolt grades and know you are in the proper range. You shout be able to google something like torque chart and find something on the net.
Yes to loosen or tighten the three bolts that hold the shafts down the lifters need to be down when tightened or loosened or you can break the shaft in half.

Yes, they are the three torques headed bolts that hold the shaft in place. I had to turn the crank every so often to lower the push rods for each cylinder, then everything lined up and seated very easily. I'll do a search for those torque spec charts.
Thank you for your help Billet I really appreciate it.:-)
